Car manufacturer Vauxhall and car rental firm Europcar have announced a partnership that will see the new Hybrid Electric Vauxhall Ampera available for rental in Europe. With the electric Vauxhall Ampera being introduced as a rental car, Vauxhall Oakham will be creating a new segment in the European automotive market.
Both companies will join forces to introduce and expand on current mobility as well as electric mobility. Vauxhall and Europcar plan to introduce the Ampera initially in Germany this November, it will then be introduced to France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom for 2012.
Vauxhall Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alain Visser said: "Electric cars are among the best long-term solutions to meet society's energy and environmental challenges. The fact that Europcar is going to introduce the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera in its day-to-day business is further proof that our extended-range electric vehicle is completely suitable for everyday use - even as a fleet vehicle in the tough rental car business".
Once a customer books the Ampera through Europcar, they will be asked to allow an extra 10-15 minutes on collecting their vehicle to run through the hybrid technology. Technicians will also advise the customer on how to efficiently drive the Ampera. Technical introduction will include information on battery charging, the range extender, energy consumption and energy efficiency displays.
Rafael Girona, Chief Operating Officer of Europcar said, "At Europcar, we are committed to responsible and sustainable business practices. We see customers' growing appetite for low CO2, environmentally-friendly solutions, especially in urban areas, and strongly believe that electric vehicles will help enhance access to greenest mobility solutions. Today, we are proud to partner with Opel/Vauxhall/Vauxhall to facilitate expansion of electric vehicles and provide customers, as early as November 2011, with the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera distinctive features."
